What does the Steps to Employment programme offer young people?

Youth Point accompanying image

Our post 16 (16-18) programmes provide a flexible approach to promoting emotional literacy and well-being of young people in their transition into meaningful employment, further education or apprenticeships. The Steps to Employment programme focuses on many of the challenges encountered by young people in both a social and an educational context, and will provide them with an individual bespoke learning package.

Each session will provide a variety of enrichment activities which will allow learners to focus on the Personal and Social Development (PSD) and include: self-awareness, managing feelings, decision making, managing stress, conflict resolution, personal responsibility, self-concept, empathy, communication and group dynamics. The sessions will also enable the young people to achieve their personal progression targets identified in the initial assessment and ILP.

In essence the Steps to Employment programme aims to provide training and support to young people (aged 16 to 18 years old) in order to assist them into a positive transition into employment, education or training. The eight week training course offers accredited learning as well as intensive individual support to each learner.

What can a young person expect while on the Steps to Employment programme?

• to make new friends
• develop practical skills
• have their say and be listened to
• get involved in the local community
• learn and have fun, both at the same time
• gain qualifications

“If I didn’t come to Youth Point when I did then I would not have anything I have now. School was good but provide anything for me at all. Youth Point has got me into college, helped me with housing, sexual health, basically it has helped me with everything.” Laura, 18
